Ireland is a net energy importer and remains highly dependent on fossil fuels. According to the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland's 2024 report, fossil fuels supplied 82.7% of Ireland's energy needs in 2023, while renewable energy accounted for 14.1% of primary energy, its highest share to date.
